 Uber Smiter Build -D2R 2.4

Build Introduction

The Uber Smiter is the absolute best build for farming Uber Tristram. If you look for a build with crazy single target damage, look no further, this is the one you should try! Smite gives a 100% chance to hit with every attack, and provides a blazing fast attack speed. As most of your damage comes from Crushing Blows (each crushing blow reduces the leftover life of the attacked enemy by 10%), even in budget gear and at low levels you will be able to clear Uber Tristram or farm endgame bosses. Smiters are great ladder starters, as even in budget gear they can easily deal with any boss or endgame content, farming bosses on Hell will not be challenging.

Gameplay

Attacking skills: Smite is our main attacking skill for single targets. If a bigger mob surrounds you, Zeal is a preferable choice, so use it as your secondary attacking skill. Lastly, use Holy Bolt on physical immune enemies, like Achmel the Cursed at Baal’s second wave of monsters. Both for Smite and Zeal, use Fanaticism Aura for it’s increased attack speed and enhanced damage. Have an Offensive Merc from nightmare to provide you with Might Aura that further increases your damage. If you can afford it, have Pride Runeword as your Merc’s weapon to give you Concentration Aura and further boost your damage.

Movement: In case you want to farm Bosses that are distant from waypoints, teleporting is the quickest option either by wearing an enigma or a magic amulet with teleport charges. Otherwise you can use Vigor aura to increase your run speed and use Charge skill to get through obstacles.

Survivability: The Smiter’s survivability is great as Holy Shield provides an immense boost to faster hit recovery. It also has a high block chance. You should aim for 75% all resistances on hell so elemental attacks cause you trouble.

As both smite and zeal deliver attacks quickly, once you have % chance to cast life tap on your gear you will quickly cast it on enemy monsters and heal yourself almost instantly. % life stolen per hit also helps.

In addition, you can use defensive auras when needed, like Redemption for life and mana recovery, Salvation to increase your resistances, or defiance for the extra defense.

Having Call to Arms as your secondary weapon allows you to cast Battle Orders, which can almost double your life. Having enough dexterity for 75% chance to block is also suggested, and wearing items like Crown of Ages, String of Ears belt or Verdungo’s belt can provide you physical % damage reduction, which comes handy especially in Hardcore. Socketing your helm with Cham rune, or wearing a Raven Frost ring is also suggested for their cannot be frozen properties.

Party and Solo play: The build can farm any game content in solo, and can even kill bosses at an unbeatable pace in 8 player games. Cheap budget options are available which allow you even after a ladder start to deal with endgame bosses. The single target damage of the build is the highest of any class and build, but it’s mediocre at dealing with bigger mobs as it attacks each monster one by one.

Parties will welcome you for your defensive and offensive auras, both of which come handy at times. At the beginning of seasons, party members will also heavily rely on you to kill bosses. If you put a skill point on Conviction aura and it’s prerequisites, you can greatly increase your party’s elemental damage.

Magic Find: If you are looking for an affordable MFing character, the uber smiter is a great fit. However, casters with teleportation will be much faster at reaching any destination, and many builds deal greater area damage, so if you plan on farming spots like the Cow Level on Chaos Sanctuary, there are better options available.

Energy: Don’t put any points on it

Items, Gearing

The listed items are organized by slots.

  • The usefulness rating of an item is based on how good it is for farming.

  • The price rating reflects the cost of the item (cheaper ones are available after ladder starts as budget options) higher price ratings reflect exponentially higher cost for an item.

  • Magic Find ratings are added to items that are good options for MFing.

Adding sockets and improving your items

  • If you complete the act5 quest Siege on Harrogath, Larzuk will grant extra socket/sockets to your items. Use the quest to add sockets to your gear and put useful jewels, runes or gems in your item sockets.

  • You can also upgrade your unique items from normal to exceptional quality and from exceptional to elite by using Horadric Cube recipes. After upgrading, your armor pieces will have more defense, and your weapon pieces will have more damage. The downside of upgrading is the increased strength/dexterity requirements.

Mercenary

Have a Nightmare Act2 Offensive Mercenary to provide you with Might aura.

Ethereal items don’t lose durability if your mercenary wears them, so having ethereal item bases for each gear slot is preferred due to their increased defense on armor items and increased damage on weapons. In many instances ethereal items that are great for mercenaries will be much more expensive than non-ethereal ones.

Mercenary gear:
Helm -

Weapon -

Body Armor-

  • Treachery runeword - usefulness 9/10, price 4/10
